Sandy Liang–Inspired Sparkly Pink Mochi: The Whimsical Dessert of 2026

The result of a Sandy Liang screenshot, Mama no Aji’s creative masterpiece, and three weeks of fixation.

Earlier this year, Sandy Liang posted pink glittery mochi for their Porter capsule launch and I became completely fixated. After a deep dive, I found that the creative mastermind behind them is Alice Hiraga (@mamano.aji), a New York-based patisserie chef known for her stunning Japanese-style sponge cakes—her page is worth every second of the rabbit hole you're about to go down.

A screenshot was taken immediately. The recreation was inevitable. Consider this my official statement: pink glittery mochi is the whimsical dessert of 2026.

What makes these so special is the combination—pillowy, chewy mochi texture with a shimmer that manages to feel both maximalist and surprisingly elegant. They look like something from a high-end Tokyo patisserie and take significantly less effort than they have any right to. The kind of thing that makes every guest stop mid-conversation before they even think about reaching for one.

If you're hosting anything this year, these are your statement dessert to leave a lasting impression!

Full “recreation” recipe below:

  • Any pink regular or frozen mochi (I used strawberry frozen mochi ice cream)

  • Edible glitter spray (I got this one from Amazon)

  • Edible silver stars (I got this one from Amazon)
