Like many of you, I spend a truly embarrassing amount of time researching the perfect solution to every minor fixation I stumble across. A couple of years ago, that fixation was getting Reverse Osmosis (RO) water in my apartment.

I’m talking purified, clean, crisp water—the kind that puts Evian and Essentia to shame (or your premium water of choice—I know it’s controversial). But if you live in a rental apartment, you know the struggle is real! This rabbit hole started when I saw on TikTok that Britas were not enough to filter out all of the contaminants, and I instantly felt ill even just looking at my old Brita machine (though I had upgraded to a larger countertop one a couple years back).

My research quest started, as all great ones do, on Reddit. I dove into every thread I could find looking for the holy grail: under-sink RO systems without calling a plumber. To my dismay, there were too many red flags and warnings to count. Just when I was about to give up and accept drinking poisonous water forever, I stumbled upon SimPure.

SimPure is a countertop RO system, and includes the multi-stage filtration from traditional RO systems without plumbing or permanent installation. My immediate thought was that it had to be too good to be true, as the cost is a fraction of what you might spend on a traditional system. The marketing also proclaimed that all you had to do was plug it in. However, I was intrigued by the promise of filtering out over one thousand contaminants. I was ready to take a chance as this was the only viable option that I could find! I ordered it on Amazon so it conveniently arrived within a couple of days in a big box. The machine was covered in plastic but I was baffled when I saw no signs of bags of parts or unassembled pieces.

Picture of the machine straight out of the box (minus the protective plastic covering):

I quickly skimmed through the instructions pamphlet and filled up the dedicated water container in the back of the machine. Then, I took a deep breath and plugged it in. “Holy COW” was all I could think as I simply pressed the touch screen button to power it on. I filled a few cups of water and dumped them just to make sure the filter was up to par, then took my first sip. Simpurely delicious (no pun intended)! My water bottle of choice at the time was Essentia and it tasted even better to my shock!

The machine beeps anytime it needs a water refill; all I do is dump out the dirty water and refill it. So easy peasy! Fast forward several months, blinking lights flashed on my machine and my heart dropped. I quickly looked up what they meant: the filters needed replacing! I started to get nervous that this was the “too good to be true part”. I found the replacement filters easily on Amazon, and they arrived the next day.

And you guessed it, I was baffled again—all I had to do was twist the filters off then twist the new ones on! The process is honestly easier than replacing my old Brita filters (and I get to feel like Bob the Builder)! This video in particular shows which touchscreen buttons to press once each filter has been replaced. You can flush out a few cups of water then are good to go. The filters only need to be replaced about every six to eight months when the machine beeps.

I have waited to write this post as I wanted to see the longevity of the machine, but it is still going strong two years later with no issues! If you are looking for an amazing cost-efficient, no installation Reverse Osmosis product I urge you to try out SimPure! It is truly one of my favorite purchases to date (and Reddit threads will back me on this).

I labeled the machine that I have (the first product shown), but check-out some of their new models! The SimPure site is currently doing an up to 45% off sale! I included the replacement filter packs as well.
